has some scheme or another on his sleeve. Nor do I like to meet him.
[[underlined]] March 1. [[\underlined]] Afternoon went to house warming "cocktail" party of [[red underlined]] Baron Frederick van Hoogedorfs. [[\red underlined]] Quite a number of acquaintances gathered in the garden of his recently built house.
[[underlined]] March 2. [[\underlined]] Beautiful day & sea breeze. Went out for first time this year in sailing sloop.
[[left margin]] Judge Ritter [[\left margin]]
[[underlined]] March 3. [[\underlined]] House of representatives voted with small majority for impeachment of [[red underlined]] Judge Ritter. [[\red underlined]] Scandalous political trickery against an honorable man. Fortunately the subject has now to be transferred to the Senate and it is very doubtful that the 3 out of 5 votes for confirmation will be reached there. What an agony for Judge Ritter and his family. All on account the trickery and greed of congressman Greene who covets the job for himself. Scandalous attempt to pervert the judiciary of the U.S.
[[underlined]] March 4. [[\underlined]] Drove Celine this afternoon to Mrs. [[red underlined]] Charles Deerking [[\red underlined]] who is still suffering from a [[red underlined]] broken leg [[\red underlined]] and [[red underlined]] influenza. [[\red underlined]] Her [[red underlined]] only son 54 died recently from pneumonia. [[\red underlined]] Had been a cripple since he was 16. She was not even able to go to his funeral.

[[left margin]] Mrs Charles Deering [[\left margin]]
Also lost some other members of her family. - When seeing her beautiful estate, her works of art and knowing her wealth, [[red underlined]] all this counts for nothing if health disappears. [[\red underlined]] She was very glad to see Celine and kept her as long as possible while I went exploring, the jungle and her collection of imported trees.
[[left margin]] Brannon cast resins [[\left margin]]
[[underlined]] March 5. [[\underlined]] Today is [[red underlined]] Directors meeting [[\red underlined]] of [[red underlined]] Bakelite Corporation. [[\red underlined]] Nothing but routine. But I received a long letter from [[red underlined]] Brannon [[\red underlined]] giving further result of his experiments with [[red underlined]] Paraform [[\red underlined]] for [[red underlined]] cast resins, [[\red underlined]] which seem to indicate by his samples that paraform causes streaks, needles or voids which give it a bad appearance and reduce its strength, so make it decidedly inferior to cast phenoplastics made from the usual 37% formaldehyde solution. Advised [[red underlined]] him in further work by several [[\red underlined]] suggestions, namely determine whether the spots are not due to suspended matter which on polymerisation become each a focus. [[red underlined]] Advised dissolving paraform in the glycerin [[\red underlined]] or other solvents, filtering and settling, pumping out all dissolved gas by means of vacuum pump
