entirely uninhabited except by wild birds etc.  Has been made a reservation for animal and plant life.  Andrew and the darkey catch much fish, specially evening.  Also many horse shoe crabs.
My skin has been so much exposed to the sun during these later days that I feel badly sunburnt and an itching skin makes sleeping difficult.  Large amount of excellent fish caught this night after a most beautiful sunset on the other side of the enclosed water.
[[underlined]] April 27. [[\underlined]]  Restful night except that at 5 A.M. my cabin was suddenly invaded by punkies, of microscopic size which entered everywhere and kept me itching.
So jumped on deck and covered all exposed places, thus waiting for sunset which drove them away.  Then swam, and went around the Islands in sail pram, returning by the inside of the circle.  Wind now easterly.
Temp. are = 80°  Sea 82°  Barometer 30.1.  Left Marquesas 12.50 PM and entered Navy Yacht Basin dock at 2.55 P.M. - SEXE, strong head seas.  Two large sea turtles on our course, one was harpooned by the darkey (Rowe) but the string of the harpoon broke off and we lost the turtle.
Went to anchor in Naval Yacht basin.  Two or 3 large houseboats one tied to the wharves.  All others are empty.  One of the warves is used now as the flying station

between Key West and Miami.  There is a swimming dock near our anchorage and in the furthest end there is the old army flying station.  Very quiet spot.  Anchorage or dockage charged 1 cent per foot length per day.  So my share is 48 cents x days.  Went to telegraph station of Western Union to send telegram to office.  Major Woodson Rhein is in command of Army flying landing station, U.S.A., pleasant gentleman, offered me assistance if needed.
I let Andrew and Row go ashore in the evening, so was left alone aboard.  I resented somewhat his eagerness to go ashore, finding myself all alone here in a spot where so many vagrants and unemployed as well as criminals are hanging around.
Both came back at 11.15 P.M.  I felt much irritated.
