[[underlined]] June 2. [[/underlined]] A busy day. Morning to office. Afternoon [[underlined]] Commencement exercises [[/underlined]] of [[underlined]] Columbia University. [[/underlined]]
Celine has a reception at her exhibition of paintings in the Heckser Building 57 st. & 5th ave.
[[left margin vertical]] Columbia Commencement exercises [[/left margin vertical]]
Commencement exercises were [[underlined]] held in the open [[/underlined]] and the weather was propitious. A very imposing spectacle in the quadrangle between the Columbia University building 116 street was closed for the occasion. Loud speakers placed at suitable distances made the voice of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined in black and red]] President Butler [[/underlined in black and red]] and others very accessible to every one of the many thousand participants. It was past 8 P.M after it was all over, and Celine was waiting for me patiently in her car at the Faculty Club. Before leaving went to the reception of [[underlined]] Dean Barker [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] his wife [[/underlined]] which was held in the garden before the Engineering building. A very strenuous day but very

pleasant because I met so many dear friends. Dr. [[underlined in red]] Gianque [[/underlined in red]] was awarded a D. Sc. Honoris Coursa.
[[underlined]] June 3. [[/underlined]] Went to visit [[underlined in red]] Celine's exhibit of paintings [[/underlined in red]] in the Heckser building. Intended to go there incognito, but was immediately [[underlined in red]] recognised [[/underlined in red]] by the lady in charge.

This collections of paintings made an excellent impression, even better than when seen at home. I [[underlined in red]] am proud of her. [[/underlined in red]]
Afternoon Dick came to fetch me and I drove to Nina's house in Scarsdale to visit [[underlined in red]] Ninette. [[/underlined in red]] - Found her considerably thinner & pale; in a long chair on the Verandah; but she was cheerful and smiling and is recovering gradually. She has a special nurse. Nina has give up idea her [[ink blots partially covering the word "idea"]] of a wedding trip in England on account of Ninette's illness; which pleases me much.
