A very enjoyable day and evening
[[underline]] July 8. [[/underline]] Tonight is [[red underline]] Calder's [[/red underline]] dinner as President of the Soc. Chem. Industry retiring in a few days to be succeeded by Lord Leverhulme, in a week after the end of these festivities

[[red underline]] The news that I have been made a Honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh [[/red underline]] has been published by the London papers, so [[red underline]] everybody comes to congratulate [[/red underline]] me. Am told this is a great distinction because the [[red underline]] statutes [[/red underline]] of the Royal Society of Edinburgh [[red underline]] forbid to have more than a very limited number of Honorary fellows [[strikethrough]] outs [[/strikethrough]] in England or in foreign Countries. [[/red underline]] - Have called the news to Allan Brown. I find that among others who have thus been honored is my dear friend [[red underline]] Dr. George Sarton. [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] The list in  [[/strikethrough]] My name stands at the head of the list, followed by Maurice [[red underline]] Lugeon, [[/red underline]] Professor Geology, University of Lausanne (Switzerland) [[red underline]] George Sarton [[/red underline]] editor of Isis, U. He is the editor of the Transactions of the Society Chemical Industry and knows everybody. A quiet pleasant man of philosophical turn, of mind and dry pleasant wit
