Went with [[red underlined]] Gano Dunn [[/red underlined]] to organise office at Mayflower Hotel headquarters of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] the congress and listened to instructions [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] to [[red underlined]] Gano Dunn [[/red underlined]] as to how to preside meetings, time alloted, rules etc. also operation of telephones on each seat with a dial of 5 numbers, permitting to shift from one language to another by changing index numbers on little circular switchboard. While the speaker addresses the audience in one language, the translators (French, German Italian Spanish etc) translate immediately so that [[strikethrough]] a li [[/strikethrough]] [[red underlined]] if one cannot listen or understand English, [[strikethrough]] he can [[/strikethrough]] one has simply to shift the pointer to the number of one's own language [[/red underlined]] and thus follow the speaker and the resulting discussions.

The [[red underlined]] meetings [[/red underlined]] are held [[red underlined]] in the imposing [[/red underlined]] and well built enormous [[red underlined]] new Government buildings along [[/red underlined]] Constitution Ave. Admirably planned for such gatherings. Air conditioned, and of excellent accoustic properties.
The change from this pleasant 70°F temperature to the [[red underlined]] hot [[/red underlined]] temperature and humid air in the street is striking.
Afternoon drove to the [[red underlined]] reception of Brazilian Ambassy on Massachusetts [[/red underlined]] Ave. This is the [[red underlined]] anniversary of Brazilian Independence day. [[/red underlined]] Buffet, champagne, ice-cream and quite a crowd. Met many friends. All the Japanese again there, very conspicuous. Some are professors others Naval Officers.
[[underlined]] Sept. 8 [[/underlined]] Received [[red underlined]] telegram from Belgian Ambassador, Count Vander Straeten Ponthoz, [[/red underlined]] for luncheon at Ambassy to meet delegates from Belgium. [[strikethrough]] Met [[/strikethrough]] Met Mr. Van Wetter, son of Professor Van Wetter who was then professor of law at Ghent University when I was there. -  Son looks much like his father. - Talked over old times, old friends etc, took him along to Cosmos, then to Carnegie Institution, then to [[red underlined]] National Geographic [[/red underlined]] bdg where Merill Grosvenor, showed us all the interesting outfit for making their photographs etc. Then took him to building of National Academy of Sciences, where I met
