Went to morning sessions, where met Van Wetter, took him for lunch to Cosmos where entered him as guest visitor.
At [[underlined in red]] 10. P.M tonight, grand formal reception and ball [[/underlined in red]] at the Mayflower Hotel. As there are about 2000 guests, no room is big enough anywhere except the largest hall of the R. R. Station which has been fixed up for the occasion. [[strikethrough]] I or [[/strikethrough]] Secretary of State Hull is to address the meeting etc. - I am invited as guest (delegate from U of Brussels) but concluded wisely to abstain [[strikethrough]] from forseeing much noise, and a poorly prepared and badly served dinner; which all proved to be the case
Received a letter from Celine repeating her views [[/strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] about George and Cornelia, also expect from letter she received from George, wherein the latter says that instead of pitying him, he should be congratulated in finally escaping out of an unbearably situation, which he patiently but in vain has tried to improve etc
