Afternoon had visit of Jerome Alexander showing me proofs of his new edition to go under press.

[[underlined]] Oct 14. [[/underlined]]  This morning with Celine went to [[red underlined]] studio of Hutchinson [[/red underlined]] to see his [[red underlined]] panels for the Carnegie Library murals, [[/red underlined]] and gave him photos of Eastman and of Wright brothers.  Then went to office
[[underlined]] Oct 15. [[/underlined]]  At office all morning.  Afternoon went to see a play "Idiots delight" well played and showing the absurdities of war and national hatreds.
[[underlined]] Oct 16. [[/underlined]]  [[red underlined]] Kendall [[/red underlined]] writes me from Edinburgh intends to come to U.S for Am. Chem. Soc. meeting of next April [[red underlined]] Chapel Hill, [[/red underlined]] also a letter of introduction of [[red underlined]] Prof. D'Arcy W. Thompson, [[/red underlined]] President of Royal Society of Edinburgh and Prof. of Zoology [[red underlined]] now lecturing at Harvard. [[/red underlined]]

of Chemistry at Annapolis.  Museum well kept and interesting.  In Art section noticed one of Celine's paintings.  Met there Mr. H. Armour Smith 414 Warburton Ave. Yonkers, brother of the Smith who sold me one of my earlier autos.
Cornelia this evening left for Nevada.
[[underlined]] Sunday Oct 18. [[/underlined]]  All day at home.  [[red underlined]] Much fun with a small radio [[/red underlined]] (Emerson) of which casing 10" x 8" x 5" is entirely made [[red underlined]] of molded Bakelite [[/red underlined]] and gives excellent performance.

[[underlined]] Oct 19. [[/underlined]]  Today Mr. Kline [[red underlined]] Internal Revenue inspector [[/red underlined]] came to verify my 1934 Federal Tax returns.  Mr Kline makes an excellent impression and seems well informed.  Had to deduct amount a "real estate" expenses of the Crags, also German Taxes which can only be deducted from German dividends not yet received and which I may never receive.  Got thru in about 2 hours.  Celine's turn comes next.

[[underlined]] Oct 20 [[/underlined]]  Had a long talk with [[red underlined]] Rossi cautioning him [[/red underlined]] on his negotiations about forming a Southern Group in Alabama for [[red underlined]] Tung-Oil [[/red underlined]] extraction.  Mentioned to him and Major the objections and remarks of Holmgren.
George Baekeland, contrary to my guess tells me [[red underlined]] Landon will be elected by a land slide. [[/red underlined]]  I hope he is right.  He bases himself on statistics obtained by counting all the newspapers of the country, their readers and their tendencies towards the political candidates.  Tells me the system was used in 1932 and proved exact to about 1% and thus more than Literary Digest forecasts.
