Sent them a long cable with my congratulations and putting stress that he is [[red underline]] one of the few honorary members of the Am Chemical Society [[/red underline]] (See copy). Also mailed $100 check for the engraved medal which they are going to offer him Wrote also to [[red underline]] Frederic [[/red underline]] and [[red underline]] Celine [[/red underline]] also sent a [[red underline]] cablegram [[/red underline]] for both of us. Gave him copy of my letter of 1932 to Whitaker on this subject and also explained him about the McArdal bill concerning one single Patent Appeal Court. He says he is entirely in accord with my views. 
[[underline]] Nov 19 [[/underline]] Met [[red underline]] Barus in my office together [[/red underline]] with [[red underline]] Rossi [[/red underline]] to explain my views about patent reform and to have his opinion on the subject. Seems to agree with me. Also discussed the presiding [[red underline]] Patent suit of Catalin, [[/red underline]] and told him of our new process which [[red underline]] does not seem to fall under its claims. Pleasant discussion. The men make good impression. We will study content further and then meet again

Andrew writes me of serious repairs to ION, made necessary by decayed planking etc. - Wired him to go ahead with necessary repairs

Today is the manifestation in honor of my brother in law Professor [[red underline]] Frederic Swarts. [[/red underline]] - His colleague & pupils assemble for dinner at Hotel de la Poste in Ghent. Celine cabled him yesterday. I [[strikethrough]] wired [[/strikethrough]] sent a cable on Nov. 18. followed by a letter of congratulations. Had a good [[red underline]] room at Cosmos Club [[/red underline]] third floor. Fearful noise still going on all day in the street below repairing the tracks of trolley car.
