Dr. [[red underline]] Magnusson [[/red underline]] of Washington writes me a letter advising that I write a [[red underline]] short introduction of 200 to 300 words, which Dr. Hixson could read as coming directly from me [[/red underline]] - before his own speech. [[red underline]] So I wrote a brief history of my life, [[/red underline]] had 3 copies typewritten and sent one to [[red underline]] Hixson [[/red underline]] with explanatory letter also one to Miss Bidwell so that she can show it to Allan Brown or Don Masson together with printed program of meeting. A very busy and hectic day. [[red underline]] Again bleeding hemorrhoids [[/red underline]] this morning for about 10 minutes. - Beautiful day but feel very tired and so many letters to answer. [[underline]] April 20. [[/underline]] Feel more rested. Sent a letter Air Mail to Celine [[strikethrough]] keep [[/strikethrough]] to advise her about the [[red underline]] banquet in my honor [[/red underline]] and 2 others as [[red underline]] distinguished citizen of foreign birth. Dinner is at 7 AM to 11 P.M. at Biltmore Hotel coming Thursday. After a hectic morning answering letters had a quiet afternoon and feel rested. [[underline]] April 21. [[/underline]] Wrote letter of congratulations to [[red underline]] Jerome Robert Moore [[/red underline]] [[end page]] [[start page]] 13/ who got married on April 3, but announcement only reached me here on my return. Saw him with his wife at Banquet of A.CS, at Chapel Hill. - Also a letter congratulations to Dr. Jerome John Morgan on the marriage of his daughter. Also letter [[red underline]] condolences to widow of Dr. Camiel De Bruyne. [[/red underline]] This afternoon had visit of Mrs. Sarmiento, her sister and the husband of the latter. Wrote letter of condolences to widow of Dr. De Bruyne [[/strikethrough]] [[underline]] April [[strikethrough]] 23 [[/strikethrough]] ^[[22]] [[/underline]] [[note in left margin in red]] Distinguished citizenship [[/note in left margin in red]] Today is [[red underline]] the great banquet where the Scroll of distinguished citizenship [[/red underline]] it to be awarded to me. Do not know yet the name of the 2 others who get it at the same time because their name is kept secret. Dr. A. W. Hixson has consented to represent me. Wrote long letter to Rossi on the subject of German Bakelite. Also a letter to George Baekeland and his intended wife. Fine morning but showers afternoon [[underline]] April 23. [[/underline]] [[red underline]] Bleeding again [[/red underline]] on anus this morning. Tonight had [[red underline]] violent pain on my teeth, [[/red underline]] on left upper row. Tried tooth-wash but made it worse. This and the bleeding may have been due to too much sour dressing on my food. Finally fell asleep at about midnight [[underline]] April 24. [[/underline]] [[red underline]] Toothache [[/red underline]] has disappeared
