All this was [[red underline]] a most impressive ceremony. My whole life passed thru my brain, when I sat there just in face of Celine, [[/red underline]] she only a few feet away from my chair.

No doubt, same thoughts came to her. - and how she helped, inspired and encouraged me. Then we had luncheon by invitation at the students Club. - [[red underline]] Celine was put at the head table [[/red underline]] among the speakers - Guests of Graduates association. Afternoon garden party x in a nearby park;

pleasant chat & tea party. Then [[red underline]] evening the Kendals [[/red underline]] came to fetch us to the reception of the Vice-Chancellor at the impressive old library reception of the honor graduates etc. - Very crowded, so we left soon. The [[red underline]] Kendalls [[/red underline]] drove us on a visit around the old historic parts of the town. Altho it was [[red underline]] 10.P.M. the twilight made us feel as if it were daytime. [[/red underline]]
[[underline]] July 3 [[/underline]] The Scotsman - best [[red underline]] paper of Edinburgh [[/red underline]] gave full description of yesterdays events & ceremony. We left Edinburgh for [[red underline]] Harrogate [[/red underline]] at about noon. Edinburgh was filling fast with crowds that came to see the Royal [[strikethrough]] visit [[/strikethrough]] visit. At station Dr & Mrs. Kendall with their children and [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] also Mr. Ahrens the boy of Orange-Vry-Staat (Africa) who now studies with young Kendall at Cambridge.

Excellent train, but foggy-cloudy landscape. Arrived at our rooms in the Hotel Majestic - at [[strikethrough]] Hor [[/strikethrough]] Harrogate about 3.P.M. Very pleasant quarters. Pretty town and agreeable surroundings. Very different from

[[underline]] July 3. [[/underline]] Went walking, then driving around Harrowgate. - Very pleasant and well cared for neighborhoods.
[[underline]] July 4 [[/underline]] (Sunday) More walking about in Parks, Golf links etc.
[[underline]] July 5. [[/underline]] Members of Soc. Chem. Industry arriving and registering. Many old friends. [[red underline]] Lord & Lady Leverhulme [[/red underline]] 
Evening reception [[strikethrough]] at het. City Hall near our hotel. [[/strikethrough]] Viscount Leverhulme and Lady receiving in Ball room of Hotel Majestic - then dancing and refreshments. Lord and [[red underline]] Lady Leverhulme very friendly to Celine. - [[/red underline]] Pleasant evening
[[underline]] July 6 [[/underline]] Annual meeting in Ball room of hotel. Dear old [[red underline]] Miall [[/red underline]] Editor of Journal S.C.I.; long talk. Knows Fred. Swarts well. = [[underline]] See program [[/underline]] = Luncheon at Majestic.

Evening = Reception and [[underline]] dance [[/underline]] in Royal Hall, [[red underline]] Harrogate [[/red underline]] by the Mayor. (Alderman, H. Bolland. Evening dress & decorations. Dance well attended and well carried out in [[strikethrough]] main [[/strikethrough]] large ballroom of [[strikethrough]] T [[/strikethrough]] Royal Hall. The [[red underline]] Mayor [[/red underline]] is an electrician and [[red underline]] knows all about Bakelite. [[/red underline]]

[[underline]] July 7 [[/underline]] Meetings (morning]] visits to factories etc. afternoon
[[underline]] July 8 [[/underline]] Meetings & excursions where Celine went to a wool-mill. 8.P.M. annual dinner at hotel & dancing. Orders & decorations. [[red underline]] Celine & myself in seats of honor. [[/red underline]] This morning met Major F. A. [[red underline]] Freeth [[/red underline]] (Hill Crest, Cobham, Surrey, same man who got so drunk last year at our meeting in Liverpool. [[red underline]] Now again is drunk [[/red underline]] during the dinner.

Excellent & generous [[red underline]] speeches made by Mayor, Leverhulme etc. one [[underline]] Thompson [[/underline]] (?) referring specially to me [[/red underline]] and my work [[strikethrough]] and that [[/strikethrough]] Delightful evening followed by dance, till 1 P.M.
