Left 8.A.M. for [[red underline]] Bloomfield over George Washington [[/red underline]] Bridge, and arrived at Bloomfield plant about 1½ h. later. [[red underline]] Dr. Bender [[/red underline]] took me around, different departments. Considerable rebuilding and reshaping going on. [[red underline]] - Much progress in varnish [[/red underline]] department. Also in [[/red underline]] Halowax [[/red underline]] cables, in relation to equipment of U.S. Navy. Saw some large size, multiple wired cables being tested for which we had furnished the [[strikethrough]] ho [[/strikethrough]] halowax insulating compositions. This work is being done quietly under supervision of the [[red underline]] Navy. [[/red underline]] Promised to send candle-nuts to Varnish Dept. so as to study its availability instead of tung oil; of which there is at present a scarcity. [[strikethrough]] Resibond [[/strikethrough]] ^[[Revolite]] materials also being improved. Left there about 11:30 AM on our way to Bound Brook. Stopped long enough to take a simple breakfast of Brown Bread Cheese evaporated milk (Carnation Brand) [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] two pears and some home made wine.
[[red underline]] Arrived at Bound Brook at about 2 P.M. [[/red underline]] having been considerably delayed because the main streets leading to factory were closed. [[strikethrough]] After [[/strikethrough]] so had to make detours Rup. Low on arrival told me this was due, because New Jersey

was finally compelling factories and municipalities of discharging waste and sewerage in the little brook that passes in front of our works. This is [[red underline]] good news [[/red underline]] since we went at [[red underline]] great expense to purify our waste [[strikethrough]] warter [[/strikethrough]] water [[/red underline]] before sending it in the brook. - [[strikethrough]] We may h [[/strikethrough]] but our neighbors made this useless. Am told we shall in future be able to use brook water for cooling and other similar purpose.
[[vertical notation in left margin]] [[red underline]] Fine set of men, [[/red underlined]] all loving their work. Most of them have their own automobiles, which require acres of parking near our plant. [[/notation in left margin]]
Low guided me around the different buildings. All very busy and many improvements. [[red underline]] New building for shelter, rest [[/red underline]] and eat-room for workmen is being created. Resibond machine working [[strikethrough]] out [[/strikethrough]] to maximum production. [[red underline]]

[[red underline]] Full production everywhere. Molinari [[/red underline]] showed me his phenol esthers [[/red underline]] and higher phenols isolated [[red underline]] from California [[strikethrough]] wood [[/strikethrough]] [[/red underline]] red wood distillation etc. Office also [[red underline]] very busy with many new employes. Cast material department also busy to capacity. [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] Ask [[/strikethrough]] Asked Brannon to come along with us in different departments. The whole outfit looks very impressive and well kept. It [[red underline]] looks as if we shall have to build still further additions [[/red underline]] and new buildings if business keeps on this way. Fortunately we are [[red underline]] well provided with tung-oil [[/red underline]] and other raw materials which all have mounted much in price since we bought them. Met Dr. Schwemmer from German Bakelite who is sent here [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] for studying our newer methods. The [[red underline]] Urea-materials plant [[/red underline]]
