Mr. Burrus presiding, at the speakers table where I had one of the seats, others were Dr. Asche President of Miami University.  A well conducted dinner.  Was invited to speak so spoke about the work of the two brothers Compton.  Compton made a long but very interesting speech in which he explained, the enormous developments and ramifications which had been introduced in M.I.T. - Altho' it took him about 2 hours, everybody listened with intense interest.  On my left sat a Mr. James J. Herstell who took copious notes. - Reference was made to my work.  A very interesting evening.  Arrived home at 11.30 P.M.  Andrew driving
[[underlined]] Jan 26 [[/underlined]]  Cold again.  Niagara River and ice downs has carried away the big steel bridge.  Some of the asbestos tiles in the house are again curling up and detaching.  This becomes irritating. - Wrote to Rothsperch who laid the tiles.  It becomes more and more evident that insufficient adhesive material

or defective distribution of the cementing material is to blame.
Jan. 27.  To my great joy, Mr. E.H. Berger of Johns Mandeville Co came to visit me to examine the defective tiles. - He is a very pleasant man and confirmed my belief that insufficient adhesive or irregular distribution is the root of all our difficulties.  He will send me new tiles and the proper cement.  This evening at about 5 P.M went to Fairchilds, where I met some friends of his

Nina wrote a long letter explaining why she had sent Judge Ritter to find out whether the rumor of my death was correct. - A comedy of errors.  She certainly was not to blame.  Under the same circumstances I would have acted exactly as she did.  Wrote her in this sense.
