Feb. 7. - Went to Miami to have my boat license renewed. This evening Dr & Mrs. Fairchild paid me a visit. This morning wrote a letter to Dr. Duggan of Institute of International education recommending his son in law Muller, now student at Harvard for a travelling scholarship. George writes me Rossi is in Jamaica and that business has much declined, about 64% of last year same period. Some of our laborers have had to be laid of. - All this we owe to Roosevelt and his New Dealers.
[[underlined]] Feb 8. [[/underlined]]  More letters to answer and interruptions by visitors. Mr Moore, in charge of Tax division and inspector of ^[[taxable]] property here.
[[underlined]] Feb 9. [[/underlined]] [[strikethrough]] Wu [[/strikethrough]] This morning 5 P.M. discovered all electric lights out. So had to resort to candles until sunrise.  Andrew tells me all lights on our property went out last night at 9 P.M. on account of short circuit caused by palm fronts, rubbing the insulation away. Light was restored about 8 A.M. This accident made me feel the difference between modern electric

[[underlined]] Feb. 10. [[/underlined]] Went to meet Celine at the Seaboard Air Line station.  Train arrived punctually at 7:30 AM. She is in excellent health but still limps slightly on the leg where last year she hurt her ancle.  Beautiful weather. The [[strikethrough]] w [[/strikethrough]] waste line, that runs to the septic tank, under Monkey house is clogged up so all sinks and baths and W.C's of the S.W. side of our building are out of order and cannot be used. Andrew arrived with an intelligent plumber, Webb., who after some digging and sounding discovered the obstruction [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] in the waste pipe near S.E corner of he building. At that place the iron pipe of the waste-system, connects with a bake stoneware pipe, which allowed neighoring trees to [[strikethrough]] cau [[/strikethrough]] sent their crawling roots into the pipe. Celine and I went to see the Movie tonight.
[[underlined]] Feb 11. [[/underlined]] Busy day rearranging my office room. [[strikethrough]] Beautifu [[/strikethrough]] Beautiful weather.
[[underlined]] Feb 12. [[/underlined]] Celine went [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] with the Fairchilds to a garden party of Dr. Farnsworth at Miami Beach. Frieda arrived this morning by steamer. [[strikethrough]] Lincoln's [[/strikethrough]] Birthday Lincoln
[[underlined]] Feb 13 [[/underlined]] (Sunday)  Stayed in all day. Beautiful bright weather.  Evening 8 P.M went to Fairchild to see exhibit of the two britishers who in their Caravan have traveled
