all over South Africa and the coast to photograph, vegetation woods, forests, natives etc in natural colors on Color photography dry plates. A most interesting and greatly educational performance. Col. G. A. Duncan, ran the electric lantern, which was provided with a fan so as to keep the plates cool; his partner Mr. L. E. Taylor, explained the pictures.  Questions were freely asked and suitably answered. There were about 30 guests. [[strikethrough]] Dr [[/strikethrough]] Professor Thorn, Barbour of Harvard, who is staying with the Fairchild and did zoological exploration work in Africa was there. Also Commander von Paulsen head of the Coast Guard aviation station of Coconut Grove also there together with botanists and quite a number of ladies. Came back home about 11 P.M.

Also repair to pump of windmill. Also electricians putting telephone wire connections entirely under ground.

Bloomfield Expenses for 1937 (including 22,668 for Printing plate department =) total for research etc. in Bloomfield is [[underlined]] $590,587.00. [[/underlined]] Quite a sum of money [[strikethrough]] dev [[/strikethrough]] for research and development, and not including research and development of Bound Brook.
Received a letter dated [[strikethrough]] Yonkers [[/strikethrough]] Feb 10 from the Common Council of the City of Yonkers and signed by the City Clerk Francis J. Heafy and worded as follows:
Dear Dr. Baekeland
At the stated meeting of the Common Council held Tuesday evening Feb. 8-1938, the following resolution introduced by Alderman Towner was adopted unanimously
[[underlined]] Whereas [[/underlined]] - a prominent citizen of this City, Dr. Leo Baekeland has been awarded the Messel Medal, highest honor of the British Society of Chemical Industry, for his scientific achievements in the Chemical field, and
[[underlined]] Whereas [[/underlined]] Dr. Baekeland previously received similar honors for his scientific discoveries, therefore:
