Her mother has not given her a good example and the girl suffers from it. - [[strikethrough]] I f [[/strikethrough]] We fear she has become cynical; ready to make fun or sneer at others, rather indifferent in her studies, backward in her school, where she sits in the same grade as girls 2 or 3 years younger than she is; while treating too many things with her cynicism and feeling contempt for others, who are ahead of her in school, where Celine tells me she makes no friends. All her voracious reading of the endless lists of books on every possible subject except science has made her lopsided in her attitude. We fear she is in a dangerous mood, and an absolutely different child than [[strikethrough]] our [[/strikethrough]] all our other grandchildren. Her physical beauty adds to her presumption. We hope she may change before it is too late. - Celine is very gentle and motherly with her, and is the sole person who seems to have some influence on her. Celine tells me Dickie's desire is to go in a book publishing business or journalism.

Yesterday had the visit of Dr. ^[[H.S.]] Wolfe X of the Homestead station of the Plant & Botanical Institution of Gainesville.
