Met many more old dear friends than since many years and all were so kind to me. The procession started at 5 P.M. Beautiful clear weather, but unusually cold for the season. I was shivering in my toga. But all in all a most enjoyable day [[strikethrough]] [[underlined]] June 2 [[/underlined]] [[/strikethrough]] Dr. Butler who looked so well last night and this morning when he gave his speech to the Alumni arrived tired looking, but got thru the whole ordeal of introducing graduates etc. a monotonous repetition and tiresome straining work which could easily performed by some one else and thus spare the fatigue and strain of an old man, whose life is so valuable to our Columbia U. and the good citizens of the U.S. - I shall try to bring about this reform. Urged George to drop his Philadelphia engagement at Franklin Institute on the day when his son Brooksie graduates at his school. - Let Rossi do it. [[underlined]] June 3. [[/underlined]] Holmgren tells me that my N.Y State income tax return 1937 is all wrong and that I have overpaid and he is drawing up new report and writing letter to Tax Commissioner. [[underlined]] June 4 [[/underlined]] Saturday. - Stayed at Snug Rock all day, attending to belated work
