Returning we [[strikethrough]] pas [[/strikethrough]] crossed the water by Ferry in passed to the beautifully newly laid out park system of the Bronx region; devised and carried out by that efficient park commissioner Moses who is transforming and beautifying many ugly corners in or around New York. - His work is a revelation.
Visited City-Island which was not much frequented on a week day afternoon. But noted an enormous increase in small Yachts and boats since I was there last in 1925. Am told that on Sundays and holidays the place is very crowded specially in the evening and nights. Abolition of prohibition has done away with the former "bootleggers" and policemen who were bribed by them. Back at Snug Rock about 5.P.M after a most interesting afternoon excursion.

Remained at Snug Rock all day: - "Reading, writing and arithmetic"

[[underline]] Sept 4 [[/underline]] Sunday Invited Dr. Ripper & his wife for luncheon at Snug Rock. Made them test my wines and newly made port. He has definitely given up his Austria he loved so much and has applied for citizenship of the U.S. Cyanamid Co. has retained him as consultant
[[underline]] Sept 5. [[/underline]] Labor-Day
Library. Most perfect weather [[strikethrough]] Ev [[/strikethrough]] Spent the day, reading and writing in the tower whence a most admirable view of the Hudson at his best. Thinking of the past, the present and the future of our little family, and rereading old letters, reviewing old photographs etc.
[[underline]] Sept. 6. [[/underline]] At office. A telegram from Lebach asking me to sent the 1000$ guaranty I had promised to lend him to the German steam ship line in New York office which will transmit it to Havannah where Lebach is to arrive. I wonder whether I shall ever see this money back. But Lebach acted very well in my favor, thus saving me [[overwritten]] ma [[/overwritten]] the costs of a patent suit in Germany against the firm of which he was the chemist.
