Newspapers reported an [[underline]] explosion [[/underline]] at [[underline]] our Bound brook [[/underline]] plant last night in one of our phenol-formaldehyde kettles. Damage $10.000 (insured) and nobody hurt. Hope it may be a lesson for future
[[underline]] Jan 12. [[/underline]] Easterly trade wind has been steady every day since my arrival. This morning it turned Westerly for the first time since then. But after two hours [[strikethrough]] it turned [[/strikethrough]] the [[note in L margin: 25.496.]] trade-wind blew again from E.
[[underline]] Jan 13, 14. [[/underline]] [[strikethrough]] Wrote [[/strikethrough]] [[underline]] President Nicholas Murray Butler [[/underline]] sent me a letter appointing me one of the Council of the Departments of Engineering and Chemical Engineering to participate at a coming meeting of the board to discuss changes and improvements in their present organization.
Before answering I sent special delivery letter to [[underline]] Prof. Hixson [[/underline]] to inform him and to let me know more about the situation (Jan 14)

Wrote many more belated letters until evening. Then until midnight kept on indexing my private notebooks; thus reliving again my experiences of long long ago. The stillness of the night makes it so much the more enjoyable.
[[underline]] Jan 15 [[/underline]] (Sunday) Wind shifted northerly last night and temperature which hereto had been 70° to 78° has receded to 64: in the morning but increased again to above 64°

Also the efforts of [[underline]] Bakelite Gesellschaft [[/underline]] thru visit of [[underline]] Sachs [[/underline]] and [[underline]] Weger [[/underline]] trying to reach me on my ION in Florida and I telling them to stay away until I tell them I am ready
[[underline]] Jan 16. Long letter from Dean Barker of Department of Chemical Engineering. [[/underline]] telling me the present situation and the necessity of reorganisation Dr. [[underline]] Jackson too old [[/underline]] and no longer fit and [[underline]] Dr. McKee [[/underline]] giving too much attention to private
