A long dreary Sunday with the perspective of being laid up at least 2 weeks more in case operation is decided upon.
[[underlined]] June 12 Sunday [[/underlined]] Dr. Fowler here this morning with one of his colleagues. [[strikethrough]] I feel dizzy. [[/strikethrough]]  Afternoon I walked in the garden for a short time but feel dizzy. On the verandah near my room met Mr. [[underlined]] Spencer of the New Jersey Zinc Co. [[/underlined]] who is here also as a patient. His case is asthma. Long talk about mutual friends and Bakelite. Nurse irrigated my deaf ear. This morning on listening to the rotating electric fan ^[[in my room]] it seemed to me that my left ear was perceiving faintly the sound of the fan.
[[underlined]] June 13. [[/underlined]] On awakening and after washing my ear I tried again my yesterday experiment with the electric fan. The sound was more distinct than yesterday, [[strikethrough]] has [[/strikethrough]] and now I am sure that the left ear begins to function again. This was [[strikethrough]] firmer [[/strikethrough]] further confirmed because I heard faintly the sound of the ticker of my watch. I feel the more elated because last night Dr. Fowler had brought his senior colleague who had

recommended an operation and had left without saying a word. - This morning there is no doubt in my mind that I can escape all the complications involved in an operation which would keep me stalled here for at least 2 weeks or much longer. I telephoned immediately to Celine and George. During the day I felt my belief fully confirmed by watching noises inside the building and outside in the street.  Fowler still wants to keep me under close observation. - [[strikethrough]] Tw [[/strikethrough]] Towards evening a violent thunder storm and much rain. Celine visited in the morning.
[[underlined]] June 14. [[/underlined]] Up early.  [[strikethrough]] Foggy weather [[/strikethrough]]  Feel well rested. Condition same as yesterday. Dr. Fowler tells me shall have to stay here for several days more until we find the improvement is permanent. Fine clear weather and sunny. Celine came to visit. So did George.
[[underlined]] June 15 [[/underlined]] Much better. - Bright weather. Yesterday had the visit of Dr. [[Jonssens?]] [[strikethrough]] who is [[/strikethrough]] a Belgian who is one of the most ablest surgeons here. He has a split palate and has had himself operations on his throat and tongue, the result of which is that he speaks in a loud shrieking voice, difficult to understand.
Celine came here this morning. She is to take all the grandchildren
