139/ Went to office and went over a document to be signed tomorrow in relation to our consolidation with Union Carbide Co. - Bakelite business is doing well. - But we have only one years supply of tungoil; which may not last so long in view of increased uses. [[underline]] Sept. 8 [[/underline]] Special meeting of stockholders at office to voice their endorsement or opposition at the meeting at 11 AM. Bakelite offices and ratification or rejection of the consolidation with Union Carbide Only Adolf Karpen, young Hasslacher, Berliss there together [[strikethrough]] with from non aff [[/strikethrough]] together with myself presiding. [[/vertical note in left margin]] Holmgren acting at Secretary; on accord of George Baekeland being still in England, detained there by war conditions. On September 29 will take place the final meeting of the stockholders, which will be the opportunity for any opposition; altho' at present since this morning's meeting of stockholders, there was general consent. Got a telephone call from Cyanamide Co office requesting that I give a $1000 fund on which Brooks can draw in Mysore. - Mysore being under the British tutelage it is quite possible that if the Germans want to attack Britain's far off possessions Mysore may not be spared and that British ships may be molested on those sea-routes.
