and guests were assembled as I am the oldest Chandler medallist, I was on the head table with our Dean of faculty on my [[strikethrough]] right [[/strikethrough]] left, and Professor [[strikethrough]] Urea [[/strikethrough]] Urey Nobel prize winner at my left. I had invited many as our guests. Among them George Baekeland, Moore, Byron Eldred Wieth, and many others of Bakelite.

Excellent food and wine and cheerful mood. The Chandler lecture was given in Chandler Hall, filled to the utmost. I was placed on the presiding platform. [[strikethrough]] A m [[/strikethrough]] Met many old friends. A most interesting evening Mr. Marcellus Hartley Dodge who married Geraldine R. Rockefeller, daughter of William Rockefeller came to shake hands and to remember our dear friend Pupin who was his neighbor in Connecticut.

This was a most pleasant evening. Was told that my award of the Chandler Medal occurred on the 50th anniversary of the school of mines. - In 3 days, Nov 18 comes the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the School of Mines. Twenty five years are soon passed. In 1914 the War started and now 25 years later we have its repetition, and worse.

November 17. - This morning meeting of Board of Directors at Bakelite office. George, Sanford Brown, Leo Karpen Redman and myself present, 11 AM.

Dividend (the last) of 30 cents per share declared. Rossi is ill. Went to Century where met many friends.
[[underline]] Saturday [[/underline]] Nov. 18. Distilled about 2 gals. of alcohol from some of my discased [[strikethrough]] wine [[/strikethrough]] home made wine vintage 1935. Concord [[strikethrough]] 1600 cc wine 54% C2H5OH and 440 cc [[/strikethrough]] to make Portwine type for the annual reunion of the Older graduates of Columbia University.
[[underline]] Sunday. [[/underline]] November 19. Reading war-news and writing letters. Wrote a letter to Ninette B. Roll who is now in school at Chevy Chase Washington, D.C
[[underline]] Nov. 20. [[/underline]] At office am told the last formalities [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] from Washington for our amalgamation with Union Carbide are complied with. Now comes the exchange of Bakelite shares for U.C. shares. Went to Century Association for luncheon met many friends. Destruction by mines etc. of British and neutral ships continues by Germany to make ^[[merchant]] navigation difficult and very risky. Very cold day.

An aside note that I had to share, Geraldine Dodge at Giralda was an avid lover of English Cocker Spaniels, and the first woman to ever judge at the Westminster Kennel Club. She wrote the definitive book "The English Cocker Spaniel in America"
