Went to Chemical Exposition and spent several hours this afternoon. Very striking exhibits and numerous visitors. Our exhibit of Bakelite, attracted many  visitors. Received an excellent letter from 
Dec 7. Mr Kingsbury (British Bakelite Co) endorsing fully our continuation with Union Carbide
[[underline]] Dec. 8 [[/underline]] At office then to Chem. Exposition for many hours. - Met many friends. Visitors even more numerous than yesterday. 
Dec. 9 Saturday At Snug Rock. George sent me an excellent [[red underline]] letter from Brooksie, [[/red underline]] just received and dated 8/11/39, very well written and outlining his program for returning in time to take the summer course at Harvard and thus making up for the period since his departure from Harvard. I have no doubt that [[red underline]] his contact [[/red underline]] with practical life and manufacturing problems, will be better [[red underline]] than mere book-learning. [[/red underline]]

The same way as it had its good effects on me in my younger years when I was a poor boy, and managed to find a job in a drug [[strikethrough]] st [[/strikethrough]] and chemicals store where I could earn a few francs, and learn the practical side in paints and varnishes and the chemicals from which they were prepared.
