twenty [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] year old [[/strikethrough]] to thirty year old limit. Belgian exhibit almost unfrequented.

Received a typewritten letter from [[red underline]] Dr. Adolf Stauss, [[/red underline]] head of German Bakelite Gesellschaft and dated [[red underline]] May 20-1940 [[/red underline]] - via Transatlantic Air Mail, thanking me for a letter I wrote him on [[red underline]] January last [[/red underline]] telling him that I intended to retire from Bakelite Corporation. He writes that the war interfered with his plan of himself and other directors of B.G. to come here and do me honor for my work. 
I also received a [[red underline]] long and very interesting letter from Dr. Fairchild [[/red underline]] dated o/b. The Yacht [[red underline]] Junk Chang [[/red underline]] Ho off the coast of the Celebes April 1-8 1940. = Four charming typewritten pages full of interest in his work and friendly sentiments to Celine and myself.

Telling us also about his accident falling down the hatch and cutting a long gash in his leg and cost him three weeks of inactivity. Then an interesting description of his work and adventures. I shall feel more at ease about him after he and [[overwritten]] his [[/overwritten]] Mrs [[red underline]] Fairchild [[/red underline]] are back here.

This morning a band of photographers came here at Snug Rock to make my photograph for the [[strikethrough]] Co [[/strikethrough]] Carnegie Institute in Chicago.

[[underline]] June 8. [[/underline]] All morning at [[red underline]] Snug Rock. Feel tired and uninterested in my work. Celine [[/red underline]] in New York, busy with [[red underline]] charities [[/red underline]] for the European war, [[strikethrough]] also [[/strikethrough]] our sisters and her brother. War getting more cruel every day. Went to New York public library [[red underline]] Germans are advancing further [[/red underline]] Beautiful weather. 
[[underline]] June 9 [[/underline]] (Sunday) [[red underline]] Celine left for Washington, [[/red underline]] with daughter of [[red underline]] Wyman [[/red underline]] and youngest Roll boy to be present at [[red underline]] commencement exercises of Ninette who is graduating. [[/red underline]] I stayed at Snug Rock attending to belated work. 
[[underline]] June 10. [[/underline]] Bad news from Europe. The [[red underline]] Nazis have bombarded Paris [[/red underline]] and their army is advancing on Paris, destroying any obstacles on their way. Norwegians have left their country and joined England [[strikethrough]] and.[[/strikethrough]] While [[red underline]] Mussolini [[/red underline]] seems ready to declare war and join the Nazis against England. Mean time [[red underline]] our politicians are disagreeing and vote more and heavier funds, to insure their reelection. [[/red underline]]

H.M. Smith 559 Fifth Ave - Phone = Murray Hill 2-8343 - came to show me photographic portraits, he made a few days ago, for the University of Pittsburgh. - He asks 20$ for 2 copies
