[[vertical note in left margin in red]] Mussolini [[/vertical note in left margin in red]]
[[red underline]] Musolini's [[/red underline]] act of joining the Nazis caused a [[red underline]] great sensation everywhere. [[/red underline]] Dirty trick those two have arranged. The [[strikethrough]] magority [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] majority of Italians who have acquired citizenship in the U.S. are against it, altho' quite a number feel otherwise. [[/red underline]]
- I do not feel well so remained in Yonkers. [[red underline]] No news whatever [[/red underline]] since several weeks [[red underline]] from my sister nor of any member of Celine's family. [[/red underline]] Nor do we know where they are. [[red underline]] Roosevelt made a long speech, [[/red underline]] urging practically [[red underline]] that we should join the French and British, and trying to get some more billions to help him being reelected. [[/red underline]]
[[in left margin in red]] !! [[/left margin]] [[strikethrough]] [[underline]] June 14. [[/underline]] Great disappointment today by the news that the French Army has capitulated to [[/strikethrough]]
[[underline]] June 13. [[/underline]] Went to the World's fair. Very hot and rather small attendance. [[note in left margin]] 164.824 [[/left margin]] [[underline]] June 14. [[/underline]]
[[vertical note in left margin in red]] French have capitulated [[/vertical note in left margin in red]]
The [[red underline]] French Army has capitulated [[/red underline]] with the Nazis, so as to safe the City of Paris, by withdrawing and leaving the City open. This act will thus prevent the demolition of Paris; while the war in other sections of France will go on. So this is the surrender of Paris. - This caused a great sensation everywhere.

[[underline]] June 15. [[/underline]] Endless consequences since [[red underline]] Paris was surrendered.
[[vertical note in left margin in red]] Italy annexes Mediterranian [[/vertical note in left margin in red]]
Italy [[/red underline]] has availed herself for [[red underline]] annexing mediterannean countries, [[/red underline]] claiming Algiers, while Spain claims [[red underline]] Gibraltar and Morroco. [[/red underline]] - Before long we may hear of the Belgian Congo being claimed by the victory.
No news since many weeks from our relatives in Belgium as all mail seems interrupted. - What a calamity. All this brought about by that man [[red underline]] Hitler, and his fellow murderers. - Britain [[/red underline]] seems now in a very [[red underline]] difficult predicament [[/red underline]] Yesterday morning I went to visit that admirable [[red underline]] Museum of Natural Sciences, [[/red underline]] where for a few hours my admiration of its exhibits and the numerous visitors, made me forget the European butchery. [[underline]] June 16 [[/underline]] (Sunday). The [[red underline]] French [[/red underline]] are keeping up their fight against the Nazis, Italians etc. - [[red underline]] Seems hopeless. While President Roosevelt [[/red underline]] and his politicians are utilising the war situation to insure reelection and putting the U.S. in a dangerous condition which may bring us into the war, there is at least one courageous man who dares express his opinion to avoid a repetition of what happened under president Wilson. That man is Colonel [[red underline]] Lindberg, [[/red underline]] a straight-forward, courageous, intelligent well informed man. In todays edition of the New York times, he describes in a 3 colum article of the New York Times, (Sunday June 16-1940) he gives his opinion in detail, and tells why we are unprepared and the consequences thereof. An honest warning, from a man who knows what he is talking about.
