(Sunday) Was invited by the World's Fair to participate as guest to the reunion of distinguished foreign born U.S. [[strikethrough]] citizens [[/strikethrough]] naturalised citizens. Very hot day. - Dick drove me to the Fair grounds, where the meeting took place on an enormous amphitheater [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] surmounted by a large ceiling. In front on the grounds a multitude of chairs, providing sitting places for an enormous number of people, while we were on the platform, where we were introduced in turn. - I representing the chemists, with Dr. E.F. Alexanderson [[strikethrough]] of German [[/strikethrough]] born and educated in Sweden now on the scientific staff of General Electric Co. etc. etc. writers, explorers artists, engineers etc. etc. - Then came hindus, negros, Italians Scotch, British, French Spaniards Russians, Germans etc. followed by national dances and national singing. A very interesting event. Dick for whom I had a ticket

saw it all, and drove me home Excellent driver among so many in cars in congested roads. 
[[underline]] Sept. 23. [[/underline]] Went to the office to have further talk about George and his health in relation to contemplate trip to Brazil. I feared he was still suffering from an old ailment To my great surprise and pleasure he seemed very cheerful and in good health. Today horrible news of a ship full with British children coming to the U.S. for escaping the cruelties of war, had been bombed by torpedos General indignation, against Germany, still further increased. Horrible times! [[underline]] Sept 24. [[/underline]] Went to Columbia, then for luncheon at Columbia faculty Club with Dr. Hixson and R. Phillip Hayden ^[[Sec'y. of U.]] Pleasant group of colleagues and our Dean. - Afternoon at Chemists Club. 
[[underline]] September 25. [[/underline]] At Snug Rock. - Cloudy and Rainey all day. 
[[underline]] Sept. [[/underline]] 26. Had my photograph made by S. Tarr, on corner of 42d str & 5th Ave [[strikethrough]] West [[/strikethrough]] Eastern side. Cold bright weather Drove from "Snug Rock" to Bloomfield laboratories. - Beautiful weather and landscape. - The men at Bloomfield all very busy on their various work.
