Had a long talk with Prof. Hixon on faculty matters. Tells me that Prof. Rautenstrauch is among the "reds" so is Urey. I visited the Electrochemical laboratory (Fink was not there but met his assistant Joseph Smatko. Then visited Urey at his office telling him I introduced and signed his application for Century Club He seemed pleased at my visit. Visited also the crowded laboratory for beginners. Letters were written two months ago before reaching us here. Other letter from Rachel also news about Frederic, who is very ill, so is his daughter in Bruges. Her house being occupied partially by German soldiers. - So went to visit the Belgian American Foundation office to consult Dr. Perin Galpin at the Central Station. - He tells me he has no definite news as how to transmit money to Belgium.
