afternoon. The Germans have destroyed Britain's largest new warship - Total loss. The Nazis seem to get victorious everywhere. Our men in Washington insist more and ever that the United States should immediately join the British forces, etc.
While sitting comfortably in Washington and let our young men do the work and perish by the slaughter that awaits them, while ever increasing cash and equivalent is sent to Britain. - borrowed (!) but very probably will never be repaid even in small amounts. Brooksie may become one of the victims and will have to interrupt his studies at Harvard. Our President Roosevelt and his circle seem to enjoy it all in as far as they do not participate personally in this war, and meantime get all the money they want. - the C.I.O is taking full advantage, by means of strikes, which postpone or otherwise weaken anything which might help [[strikethrough]] the Nazis.
