Afternoon had a thunder and ^[[strong]] rain fall at snug Rock and thunder and lightning on 2 & 3 sides. But house and garden showed no serious damage. - Rain fall drained itself well down our hill and plants and grass.

Holmgren tells me to my astonishment that our Pencil Group. Their annual earnings are much larger than ever before. all this is pleasant news and reminds me that when we combined with Union Carbide George Baekeland urged and convinced us that the Pencil makers of Chicago, should be dropped. - Fortunately he was 100% wrong. Perhaps today he is not yet aware, that Chicago Pencil makers are giving us yearly increased income from them.
[[underlined]] August 28. [[/underlined]] Visited today our old plant at [[underlined in red]] Bloomfield. [[/underlined in red]] where I found every body very busy and happy in their work of endless varieties for endless new purposes. - more so than ever before. Every body seemed happy to see me.
