This afternoon I went alone driving my motor car to the Yacht Club; then later on drove my car to the marvelous new bathing places, now open without pay. Roads and bathing places well devised, where men and children also women have every facilities and excellently [[strikethrough]] planed [[/strikethrough]] planned beaches alternating with sea - water kept in best condition. - Also visited the monkey and parrot jungle, always very interesting

Bright clear weather but cold altho' no freezing. Season seems colder than in former

years. Less visitors also. Daily violent news about war in Europe as well as in the states now in the West, where dayly blood shed is going on by land, air - planes etc. 
Brooksie Baekeland returned from Canada and visited his sister who is now [[strikethrough]] b [[/strikethrough]] ill since the birth of her little boy. - Taxes are added to boats, cars, etc. Rubber has become scarce and expensive. In fact prices are up on almost everything including gasoline and oil.
Last night I read a very interesting book published by Mr. Hoover, former president of the U.S. in which he describes the stupidities of Wilson, when the later was president of the U.S. and
