our motor car. The roads were well kept. and the zoo was very interesting: The animals, lions, tigers elephants etc. etc. alligators rare-birds etc. As there were only a very few visitors we had the advantage of careful observation. Afterwards, we returned by another road, which brought us near the sea. All in all a very instructive and interesting trip. Were back at home about 6 P.M.
Friday April 10 - 1942. The wind has kept blowing here for many weeks. _ But the flowers and trees of every kind have developed better and more generously than I ever saw this little paradise

Dicky and her husband who flew to Cuba by Air plane, visited us first before they flew away. to Cuba. They stayed there for about 2 weeks, then flew back to here and by train. After they had arrived back to New York we got the bad news that they are both ill and in the hospital. Undoubtedy a disease they caught in Cuba or in the Air plane. - We much hope to hear that they are better. _ their child is taken care of in a child's hospital.
Have written this afternoon a letter to Dean Barker of Columbia congratulating him in having been selected [[strikethrough]] to guide [[/strikethrough]] as a guide to Naval or Engineering matters
