Saturday May 16. A very detrimental situation has arisen in the supply of gasoline by the fact that the usual large fuel-boat, which supplied New York and other places, has been exploded by a German U-boat. The result is not only a loss of supply, but the dark brown liquid floats all over the water and lodges itself in my harbor and other places on our coast. A disgusting sight besides the dark brown sticky mass it kills the coast plants. [[strikethrough]] It [[/strikethrough]] In my harbor as well as that of my neighbors it has plastered itself along the walls and slopes. I shall take my boats out as soon as possible.

Dupont Building tenants Expect orders to move, to use it for war purposes. - A very hot day. Went to buy some rubber soled shoes, with white woven tissue. Spent most of afternoon and evening, putting things in shape and preparing my travel trunks. As I intend to return ^[[to Yonkers]] [[underlined]] 2 weeks from today. [[/underlined]]

This morning Paul took me to the place where the ION is stored near the river; but the storage is such that none of the [[strikethrough]] slime [[/strikethrough]] black slime on the water can do it harm. Afterwards went to the bank of Coconut Grove of which the head is a friend of mine and I deposited 300 Dollars by check. - It is unpleasantly hot today
