This Department affords employment for a number of elderly people, whose work is but little short of that of the younger employees.  In the MAIL ROOM, which is a branch Post Office, goods are packed for shipment, weighed, routed, insured, and thrown by states.  Two shipments are made daily.  The employees here are also uniformed in blue.

Every employee who has seen five years of service is given a diamond ring in token of appreciation of faithful service, and there are now nine senior employees.

A unique figure among the employed force is an old soldier of 80 years-a member of the G.A.R.-whose work consists of the raising and lowering of Old Glory and our Poro Flag.
