[[underline]] May 19, 1932 [[/underline]] various commissioners on rodent problem. They were meeting on alfalfa weevil works. Then to see Raymond S. Speers a very pompous sort of a devil but very friendly & good natured. Coming up the coast in Late afternoon we saw numbers of [[underline]] Western Grebes [[/underline]] flying north over the water also a few [[underline]] Hudsonian Curlews, Long billed curlews & Scoters [[/underline]] & numbers of [[underline]] Brown Pelicans.[[/underline]] Arr. San Luis Obispo at 11:30 pm. [[underline]] May 20, 1932 [[/underline]] Left San Luis Obispo at 7:00 AM met Richards & Olsen & Hunt at King City & went immediately out on the plague area near King City. In 44 miles coming up highway from San Miguel to King City, [[underline]] counted 10 Mourning Doves [[/underline]] along road. Took a 38 mile circle from 10:00am-11:30am through Bitterwater plague foci. Squirrels very scarce. Counted following birds from car [[underline]] 27 Doves [[/underline]] 18 of which were near a pond on fences [[underline]] 10 Turkey [[/underline]] Buzzards [[underline]] 1 pair Cal. [[/underline]] quail with covey of young. Saw 3 of these After lunch at King City joined by Leo K. Wilson & checked over Long Valley area & Peach Tree Ranch Milage 25780 to 25820 total of 40 miles. Saw from car following. Cal Ground Squirrels 12 [[underline]] Meadowlark [[/underline]] 41 [[underline]] Horned Lark [[/underline]] 29. No young all adults [[underline]] Mourning Dove [[/underline]] 7 This all grain & open land country. Treated with strychnine in 1931 and Thallium ending in mid April 1932. No quail cover & not a good dove country except little on peach tree
