Feb 22, 1933 cont at Memphis Tenn at 900 PM. Stopped at Little Rock to see Gray & Guy Amsler sec of Fish & Game Commission. Lots of Niggers - lots of cotton - lots of [[underlined]] cardinals & mockingbirds. [[/underlined]] Feb 23, 1933 Left Memphis 1100 AM after Gilchrist had car fixed and arrived at Sparta Tenn at 830 P.M. Nashville a beautiful town. Feb 24, 1933. Left Sparta 800 AM arr Roanoke Va. 9 45 PM. Another long hard day that left me tired The country was beautiful to Ride thru. Rolling hills covered with deciduous lumber - with an undergrowth of laurel, & rhododendron & occasional hillside of cedar or pine Feb 25, 1933 Left Roanoke after nine in the rain & drove until 5:00 P.M. to arrive at Days' home. There we had dinner and visited a while & Gilchrist & I went on to the Carlton Hotel. Feb 26, 1933 Tired from the trip we stayed pretty close to the room. Young came down to the hotel for a visit as did Ashbrook later in the day. Feb 27, 1933. In conferences all day at the office. They adopted a schedule of formal meetings in the afternoon & informal conferences in the morning. To Baileys in evening. Feb 28, 1933. Same as above. Talked with Bell, Cheesman, Bailey-Preble. etc. Mar 1, 1933. Conferences all day with the various bureau people.
