on Sauvie's Island. Didn't get anything but saw & heard a [[underlined]] California Cuckoo [[/underlined]] and a [[underlined] Red eyed Vireo [[/underlined]] sang persistently from an ash tree overhead. Also saw several [[underlined]] Wood Ducks [[/underlined]]. Water still too high for good fishing.
July 10, 1933
In office all day answering letters & preparing reports
July 11, 1933.
Leo Couch in office for conference & home to dinner with me also met Ballard for conference in office. Mowed lawn in evening 
July 12, 1933
In office all day dictating all of report possible and preparing to move to new quarters. Worked around home in evening.
July 13, 1933
Moved offices to new building where for the first time I'll have a private office where I can work alone & have conferences. The quarters are very comfortable. To nursery in evening [[strikethrough]] July [[/strikethrough]] to see John.
July 14, 1933
Left Portland 900 AM with Jewett and  traveled over Wapineta cutoff. Ate lunch at Bear Springs where the blow flies were terrible. Crossed the Deschutes canyon at Maupin where the heat was like a furnace. Never saw it any hotter in this district near Madras we saw a [[underlined]] Swainson Hawk appear "from the clouds" where he came withing range of my vision he was dropping like a falling star. I was not sure that it was a bird until he [[/underlined]]
