July 16 - 1933
Left camp at 630 Am to Happy Camp arriving at camping place on Main Siskiyou divide on head of Indian Creek in line between Klamath & Siskiyou Forests at noon (1230) This camp about 2 or 3 miles in an air line below Oregon State line. We got stuck with car just before reaching camp and by time camp was made & car released it was about 330 PM. Climbed Little Grayback mt. in PM for look around country. First place where I ever saw oak growing as a gnarled dicumbent shrub in the rocky summits (6100 ft)

We reached camp at noon % left at 130 PM arriving at Chatco Inn in Curry Co. at 500 PM a welcome change from this furnace like heat of the Illinois Valley. The following notes on birds seen in evening of 16 & morning of 17th are of peculiar interest.
[[underlined]] Junco [[/underlined]]. We collected several & saw lots of both young & adults. They were by far the most abundant birds present.
[[underlined]] Audubon Warbler [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] Rufous Hummer [[/underlined]]
