Grazing areas so far as we could find on south & east slopes. North & west mainly precipitous & rocky. Aug 1, 1933 Left camp at 800 AM and stopped at Currant Flat for conference with Ranger Hampton then started for Olympia. A broken bearing in the left hind wheel of truck held us up and we were 330 PM getting into Enumclaw where it could be fixed. Once near Lake Tipsoo where we were allowing it to cool we climbed a sharp rocky peak to the north of the pass and was rewarded by finding a wonderful display of [[underlined]] Penstemon rupicola. P. procerus - Saxifraga bronchialis [[/underlined]] an Arenaria and both yellow & white erythroniums in full bloom. also heather - lupines - paint brush etc. At Olympia I repacked my stuff & came on in to Portland arriving at 1100 PM Aug 2, 1933 All day at desk going thru mail and dictating letters. In evening for a conference with Speer at his home Aug 3, 1933 at desk again all day on mail and routine work getting desk pretty well cleared by night ready to go to work on other things Aug 4 - 1933 General office work & moved bird cabinets down to office.
