a willow thicket. Shot an immature [[underline]] red bellied hawk & two Lawrence's goldfinches. [[/underline]] In afternoon to Guadaloupe where they were packing solid cars of tomatoes & carrots. Then over the hills where it was impossible to raise crops because of the squirrels. Wonderful clean up and also saw hundreds of [[underline]] yellow billed Magpies. [[/underline]] These birds have been abundant everywhere on this trip. Met Horn on our return to town.

Left Santa Maria at 730 AM to Santa Barbara for mail via San Marcus pass. Saw another [[underline]] Red bellied [[/underline]] Hawk with a good sized Citellus beechyi in its claws. Hawks numerous. Saw a [[underline]] shrike [[/underline]] with a Perognathus in its claws. arrived Low Angeles at 300 PM. Wrote 11 letters called Willet, Jacobsens etc. Neville 
Oct 19, 1933
Left L. A. 700n AM with Neville and looked over squirrel job in Antelope Valley & on adjoining forest lands. Well under control. Mr. Cole Turkey raiser said the boys killed a lot but still some left. Mr. Munz a rancher where we had lunch said good job. Mr. Gableman Camp supt of C.C.C. camp & Capt. Haggarty thot good job. Found foreman Charles Pinkham who had the back end of trails well polluted with squirrels. 7 men working seemed enthusiastic about job. 
Thence to Big Pines Camp where we met Mr. Wright supt of LA County park He was enthusiastic over the work done there & said it helped camp grounds very much. Thence to Big Bear Lake & met Ranger Robe who also likes job & wants some predatory
