spreading their crests & strutting their stuff before the female. Also lots of widgeon, some Canvasbacks, numerous scaup & Goldeneyes and several good flocks of pintails. also plenty of red breasted mergansers - western grebes - blue herons etc. Beach at westport barren of any birds. visited Mathias sec. of Aberdeen & Hoquiam chambers of commerce. & stayed at westport.

Left Westport at 630 AM. and arrived at Olympia at 900 AM. visited Couch & Hart & then went to Tacoma where we saw Tucker, Bowles & Warburton Then to Seattle for a conference with James & Orenden also saw Hinkley & Davis of game commission & Virgil Bennington there after [[strikethrough]] Jan 18, 193 [[/strikethrough]] dinner to Stanwood.

Over skagit flats with Luckhardt in AM where I saw more ducks than I have seen all year. Widgeon by far the most abundant & everywhere in hugh flocks. Mallards also very abundant and altogether I must have seen thousands of pintails, scaups, & butterball also a few large geese - exceedingly dark which may have been white cheeked geese. 
In afternoon to Camano Island looking for quail but no find nor much of anything else.

On Whidby Island all day. No Bob white & [[evergreen?]] thrushs they are gone from there also saw very few valley quail but as the weather was terrible that may have had something to do with it. Returned in evening & talked with Miss King who said
