the area I was appalled wild crab, crataegus and Amelanchier had been cut indiscriminately over perhaps 10 acres. Black cherry also gone & half the oaks. This condition resulted from first two days work at camp It has been corrected and in later clearing food trees & shrubs have been scrupulously protected. Opening up of tops in some places will benefit wild life rather than reverse.
In PM drove to Camp east of Cumberland 20 miles. Met camp supt who took us over FSI work. Roadside [[Imp?]] work rather severe. Lots of Cornus & some amelanchier. Best oak timber I've seen yet. Too old to be ideal Game cover over 2000 acres about right on 1000 acres in forest. Disease [[thriving?]] has been too heavy for [[?]] but fair for game except that they are cutting too many Coon trees in some areas. Drove on & arrived in Harrisburg 945 PM. N. Sauria camp supt

In Harrisburg all morning talking to Mr. J. W. Keller of State Forestry organization and Mr Morton of Ore State Game Commission & WH Conklin Forest organization now have a pretty good instruction sheet ordering all berry & fruit & nut trees except where seriously interfering with better stuff. Nothing to be cut within 25 feet of a stream & roadside cutting to be limited to 50 feet each side of trail. Saw Mr. McFarland & Mr Stevens for a short time. Then to Miffenburg where we met Mr. R.B. Wentic & over some of his work as District Forester on the Bald Eagle
