May 3, 1935 General office work and looked at house with Clara. Rented a place at 1226 Quincy St at 100.00 per month. May 4, 1935 AT office all day working in various matters. Took Clara to Sea food dinner which was very fine but expensive. Harveys on Connecticut Ave May 5, 1935, To Plummers Island with Alex [[?]] & Fred Lincoln for shad bake. Had a wonderful time. Governor Pruchot & H. B. Ward present and about 30 others. Skinned 4 birds in the evening my first since arriving in Washington. Dr. Fisher acted as chief cook & he certainly got a wonderful scald on the shad. It was the most delicious fish I've ever eaten. May 6, 1935 In office in the morning. Lv for Long Island with Cottain. Clara rode with us to N.Y. and we arrived in Newark late Monday evening after driving from 2:00 PM on. May 7, 1935 Left Newark at 7:30 AM or thereabouts and finally got out of Brooklyn after wandering about all over the map. We were lost several times and either I or the cops didn't know the traffic rules. We visited Jones beach & made a motor boat trip up the channel to examine the mosquito control works.
