Up at six and off to Richmond with Clara. Met Handley & Dan Wilson and the Virginia Commission. Very satisfactory conference with the entire crowd. To Coleman quail farm where I went over the ingenious system developed to hatch quail on a large scale. All incubator hatched eggs placed in hand[[?]] each Wednesday, so he has a batching coming off each Week. Has a set of electric brooders all on wire all handled from one thermostat & temperature control and keeps each hatch three weeks here until well feathered out. They are then sent to growing pens where they are carried for five more weeks before sale.
300 breeding pairs carried on wire. Has quail which lay 140-150 eggs per year & birds that have produced nearly 600 eggs in four or five years. Returned home at night.
