Nov 3, 1935
     Slept better than I ever have on a Pullman
and didn't awaken until 8:30 A.M. Was tired
& sleepy last night after the uncomfortable
ride on the speed train from Chicago to
St. Paul.  Wrote all day on Forestry
& Game Management article for the
Chief.  In evening on alpine plant book.
Nov 4, 1935
     Saw quake torn Helena this morning
Many buildings wrecked including the
railroad station.  The country is
still shaking  --  three or four sharp
ones coming last night.  Arrive at
Missoula at 11:00 A.M.  Lunch with Glenn
Smith, Bill Rush, Prof Nelson where we
discussed the cooperative set ups.
then Bill & I went to Spokane arriving at
10:30 P.M.  Roads slippery & treacherous all
the way.

Nov 5, 1935
Left Spokane 8:30 A.M. arrive Portland
at 3:30 P.M.  Beautiful day for the ride.
Out to Rushes for supper & then to Dad's
& Mothers.  Told them I was to be Chief and
pleased them considerably.

Nov 6, 1935
     At office all day.  Conferred with many
people wrote letters etc.  Had Miss King
down for lunch and told her.  She
was pleased but apparently not
surprised.  Said she knew it all along.
Home with Dad to dinner & then to see
Cara in the evening.
