Fine area - hugh dam. then to Lower Souris where we are spreading out over 55000 acres or as much of it as water is available for. Marsh lands ideal for ducks. also other birds. Met Henry & found him to be a fine boy. saw lots of birds - Pintails scattered all over the country in every little pot hole. Fine project all around. Building at Souris best I've seen anywhere. Skinned a longspur, horned Lark & Vesper Sp.
April 30, 1936
Left at 7.00AM to Des Lacs, Upper Lostwood Lakes. Des Lacs needs more water & will be a good project. Lostwood not so hot but a fine Sharp tail Grouse area. It needs more rainfall to make a migratory waterfowl area. Then back to Upper Souris where we opened the gates & let the first water down thru it. It was a great sight to see it pour down into the river and gradually spread out. Back to Minot where we met a few of the towns leading spirits for cocktails & dinner. They had too many cocktails to be very entertaining.
May 1, 1936
Left Minot at 800AM and arrived at Jamestown N. Dak at 7.30PM. Stopped at Sullys hill and found Parker all O.K. had a rather hurried trip over the refuge. Good area but need more land. ought to have at least 5000 acres to make it worth keeping
