Mar 17, 1937 Worked in office all day. Lunch with Carl Shoemaker. Looked over final draft of bill. Worked over statement for Appleby in eve. Mar 18, 1937. On notice all day of House Committee hearings on Budget but didn't get the call. In Secs office to meet Lindsey Warren and a group from North Carolina on Mattamuskeet Lake levels. At home studying for budget hearings Mar 19, 1937 In office all morning. Committee hearings in PM with Dirksen and Levy new members present. Very friendly hearing and soon over. Back to office at 4:00 PM Went to work in evening & dictated another chap of book.. Work until midnight Mar 20, 1937 Out to Beltsville with Mort Palmer, [[Jus? or Iris?]] & Jean. Walked to Snowden & over fields then Picnic on 800 acres and see the clearing for new pond. new animal cages etc & then back home at 5:00 PM. Saw many bird but didn't do much hunting. Frogs croaking & the buds on trailing arbutus ready to burst. 1. Woodcock 1 flushed twice below Snowden 2. Killdeer 2 Stone Cottage 3. Wilson Snipe 4 Stone Cottage 4. Turkey Vulture 5-6 over place 5. Sparrow hawk 1 Kluckhorn place 6. Red shouldered Hawk 1 Snowden 7. Red bellied Woodpecker 2 Snowden 8. Downy Woodpecker 2 9. Flicker 1
