A cold day, with mist in hills. Upper Dangle, above Powerscourt Fall & over Maulin. WI. Cocoon of Braconid found on grass leaf by A. A. Lisney at about 1,200 ft. alt. but never hatched! [on return home, I found a specimen, [[female symbol]], of [[underlined]] Meliorus [[/underlined]] sp. inside the motor. Probably this came from Powerscourt, just below deerpark, where I left the motor & J.A.J. Palmer was gathering cones of Douglass Fir : possibly it came out of the cone or possibly it hatched out of some cocoon hidden in the motor for a longtime & therefore habitat uncertain & will label it "motor", Co. Walked with Hugh from Old Barn to Bohernabreena by road & back by left bank of Dodder. Saw primrose in flower in old river bend [[strikethrough]] below [[/strikethrough]] opposite Bohernabreena chapel & in same place [[underlined]] Vespa vulgaris [[/underlined]] [[2 virgin female symbols]] & [[male symbol]] on Ivy flowers & one nice Ichneumon seen beside primrose but not captured, about size of large Tryphon with longantennae & black polished abdomen!
