[[underlined]] 22nd Jan. 1928. [[/underlined]] Walked from Old Bawn up Glenasmole & down Glencree to Enniskerry. 
Crimson out (see p. 158 ante!) & Celandine in old river coomb above Old Bawn.  Many empty cocoons of [[underlined]] Trichiosoma [[/underlined]] on birch trunks by the Upper Dodder at 1,200 ft alt. 
5th Feb. 1928 Walked from Kilcool up channel to Newtown Mount Kennedy & thence up Altidore, where very good Crabro ground seen at top of glen facing SE.; thence along ridge & W. of Down's Hill, across summit of St. Sugar Loaf & back to Bray. A most glorious day after foggy morning.  No hymenoptera seen, though conditions very favourable; in Altidore
the beetle [[underlined]] Aphodius Striatosulcates [[/underlined]] [[insertion]] punctata [[/insertion]] seen flying in hot sun.  Very good sawfly & ick. ground in channel 1/2 mile below Altidore bridge & lots of logs below
that again.  Celandine out below Altidore. 
19th Feb. Drove to Ashford, WI, & then to Ballylusk where beautiful ground explored in Ballylusk Channel.  Alder well out at Ballyhenry, as well in Primroses.  Willows coming on. 
22nd Feb. 1928. [[underlined]] Bombus terrestris [[/underlined]] [[female symbol]] sent to me by Mrs Roger, Leinster Rd., Rathmines.

26th Feb. 1928.  Drove to Meeting of the Waters, WI., & walked up to foot of Avondale.  A glorious day but after a week of east wind things looked backward.  Saw Celandine, Coltsfoot, Hazel &c in flower, but Primrose, Violet & Alder not out & willow pretty backward. [[insertion]] 1 frog spawn nearly hatched. [[/insertion]].  One small Hymenoptera taken by Daisy in tea-cup at lunch, but nothing else seen, except Diptera & a few Stone-flies.  Found two fruit on Wild Strawberry, one nearly ripe & large, evidently from Autumn flowering.

4th March. A fine morning but no sun after 11 AM. & heavy rain in hills.  Drove ASU to Lackan, where from they ascended Mullaghcleevaun!  I did not go up more than 2,000 feet as I was seedy but got plenty of Andromeda in bog at head of Cock Brook at 1500 - 1600 ft.  Empetrum in full flower & very abundant on Black Hill & Andromeda nearly in flower. No hymenoptera seen!
