The thicknesses of the strata are merely estimates, I had no means of making accurate measurements.
   The rocks have a slight dip towards the N.W. but are nearly level.
I was unable to examine the uppermost strata, above the black conglomerate, but in appearance they resembled those below. a coarse light colored sandstone
[[insert]]with a little shale [[/insert]] in which I found no organic remains except fossil wood. No.4 resembles no.2 but is lighter colored. In the shales just below this we found in one place many specimens of Exogyra somewhat like [[underline]]Earietina
[[/underline]]. As these seemed to be found only in the upper part I have divided this series in my section into two portions marked 5 & 6.

No 7 is claying shales and coal sedmis. There are ten or twelve of these but varying in thickness
from an inch to a foot or more. The coal is not black but dark brown [[strikethrough]] in [[/strikethrough]] In the shale close to the coal seams [[strikethrough]] and is [[/strikethrough]] much fossil wood (lignite)
   In No 8 I found no fossils. At the base of the cliff I found in loose stones some impressions of plants (angosperms) marked thus 1/9 All the specimens are marked with ink in this manner
        e.g. 1 = section 1
             5 = bed 5
