Writing on Youkon trip notes all day, very cold and windy. Build a fire in my room which smokes very badly. Kurill & the Indians don't get off. Propose to leave to morrow with Issacs father as his bidarra is not full. Go into Lukeens.
________ Monday Aug 26 ________
Set to work over those cartridges take the powder out and the coating off the bullets, getting about 100 lbs of balls from them and 
4 lbs of good powder. Beside this I have about 
4 lbs of powder which has been damp but is now dry and as good for Indians as any other. Elia. Kojenikoff comes in and helps me. It is very lonely. Stepanoff and Johnny away and no one to talk to all day unless it is some of the Russian work-men whom I have to keep at a distance if I want to get along at all. Snow on the mountains & hails in the fort. Lukeens woman gets my mooseskin breeches done.
