Ulukuk river + we shall break the sleds in the dark etc. but I insist in pushing on and we arrive all right as I expected. Sleep in [Ivans?] barrabora.

Morning, there is a bad wind + snow + we find the runners of the new sled both broken. Get to work and mend it as well as we can. Retie all the sleds taking off some of the goods + nailing up the rest in the cache. Sick again with the old trouble + can hardly walk. At night the new dog gets away, dont know if he will come back in the morning or not. Such is life on the road. Get ready to start early tomorrow for the Youkon. Feed the dogs on trout fresh from the river.

I have got so, now, I can live like the Indians, eat raw meat or fish or ukali and relish it but I can't [?]
